what I have been up to lately!

Well its been a while but i have been busy visiting estate agents , looking at houses, getting wet camping in Wales, looking at more houses and buying more goodies on the internet!!! the latest Fad for foureyedal is "funny little wars" , this is a take on the original Little wars by HG Wells with some additions such as supply, observation, medics etc..... The original concept is to banish the tabltop and get back to the roots of our obsession and play in the garden where troops have the space to manouvre. 54mm figures are the choice for this game obviously the metal figures supplied from quality manufacturers such as Tradition of london would prove far too expensive to fill the ranks at almost £6 per figure unpainted! so plastic figures take the fore here and the key is varnish and lots of it and very, very glossy!!!

These two examples are the first batch of elite cavalry belonging to army red

These figures are 54mm plastics from a call to arms and were origionally Iniskilling dragoons

It madea nice change to paint something so large, however what ifound was that as the figures are so large all the mistakes show up so much more easily especially with my shaky hands!!

The image below shows the size comparison between the 54mm figs as they surround a 10mm T34.

One other interesting fact about funny little wars is that the artillery is designed to be actual firings from old style matchstick firing cannon. I have already managed to get hold of two 7.5 inch naval field guns manufactured by Wm Brittains both with working spring loaded breach systems and a further two 13lb field guns with spoked wheels manufactured by the crescent toy company.
Brittains 7.5" naval gun , i will be restoring these pieces in the next few weeks giving them a fresh coat of paint and lots of gloss varnish for the final lustre..

On another subject i will be planning to get this blog updated more frequently now. With reinforcements arriving soon from Pendraken for BKC, and thinking about some 6mm Russian Napolionics from Baccus in the near future.
